No flat tyres are just one of the benefits of using tracked machinery on farm. Tyres are still a prominent part of the agricultural industry but there is a growing movement toward tracked tractors, implements, harvesters, chaser bins and other farm equipment.
What are the benefits of tracks for the farmer?
There are no flat tyres or pressure adjustments needed. This can be quite a time consuming and costly job on dual or triple wheel assemblies. Overall machine widths are substantially less for tracks than dual or triple wheeled tractors, while traction is equal to or greater.
Tracks provide lower ground compaction, meaning increased production and less requirement for periodic deep ripping.
There is also no power hop under extreme loads, meaning less risk to drivetrains and field surface quality.
Tracked tractors can start working wet soil much sooner than wheeled tractors due to increased flotation.
Tracks provide a smoother ride over rough and uneven contours and cross ploughing of fields with minimal rutting.
Tracks may seem like the ultimate way to go, but also consider that a tracked tractor will have a higher initial purchase price and replacement tracks can be very costly.
