By 1848, they had a state of the art, for its time, factory situated on the Mississippi River. It was water powered. Then, the famous leaping deer trademark was adopted in 1876. It is the longest continuously used American trademark among Fortune 500 companies.
Since 1918 when John Deere entered the business, the brand has become synonymous with agricultural machinery. Then, since 1965 a range of construction equipment and logging machinery. This includes a joint venture with Hitachi to assemble excavators in the USA to be sold under the brand. Today the green and gold machinery is used by people worldwide.
