About Vermeer
In 1943, in Iowa USA, Gary Vermeer built a mechanical hoist to help unload his grain wagon. His neighbours saw this and wanted one, so he approached a local machine shop and had several made. It took off from there. In 1948 the Vermeer Manufacturing Company was formally founded, and continues to this day with the third generation of his family involved in its management. They have seven production facilities in Iowa and others worldwide, still manufacturing industrial and agricultural equipment.
